In his more than twenty-year law practice, David Strupek focused primarily as lawyer representing ist clients in Czech litigation proceedings in the area of Czech civil and criminal proceedings including child custody, divorce, family law and criminal law, including dealing with extraordinary legal remedies in front of the highest instance courts in Czech Republic.
Specialization in the protection of human rights and freedoms, anti-discrimination law and family law
Since the end of the 1990s, he has established himself in the area of protection of human rights and freedoms. Prior to the adoption of the Czech Anti-Discrimination Act, he was part of strategic litigations, which served to unification of the Czech anti-discrimination case law, despite the absence of substantive legislation. Later he specialized in the field of family protection law, especially in cases of separation of a child from parents and substitute family care, but also in cases of divorce disputes between parents.
Representation in court proceedings and criminal cases
Regularly, David represents his clients before the Czech Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. He was a member of an international team of lawyers representing the applicant in the breakthrough case of D.H. and others against the Czech Republic concerning discrimination in special education, and also represented the complainants in cases of violation of the right to family life (Havelka and others against the Czech Republic, T. against the Czech Republic, M.R. and D.R. against the Ukraine) or complainants in cases of violation of rights of defense and fair criminal proceedings (Krasniki against the Czech Republic, Melich and Beck against the Czech Republic).
In 2006 he received the award "Lawyer of the Year" in the field of family law (as a member of the Legal Aid Line team at the Foundation "Our Child"), and in the same year he was nominated in the field of human rights and freedoms.
Since 2013, David has been a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child of the Council of the Government of the Czech Republic for Human Rights.
